Running down my list of Favourites in Internet Explorer this evening, looking for links I might want to add to this site, I came to the category Pop & Rock. First in the list, of course, was the site of Cousin T's band Absinthe Blind, who I had the privilege of hearing live in Chicago back in 2001. Naturally, I added the link to the Treasure Trove (see the right-hand side of this page), then went to the site to check out the latest news - I was vaguely aware that discussions were ongoing about disbanding AB, but I wasn't sure where things currently stood.
Well, the great news is that Cousin T, along with three former AB members, Brett, Seth and Erin, have launched their new project under the name Headlights.
They've already been on tour across the States - Memphis, Baton Rouge, El Paso, Albuquerque, Phoenix, Santa Barbara, Seattle - just reading down the list of venues makes me want to throw it all in again and head off on a road trip.
But even better than that, on the new Headlights website (you'll find it in the Treasure Trove too) you can listen to one of their new songs, Everyone Needs A Fence To Lean On, and it's sublime. Erin's voice has never sounded so gorgeous, and the arrangement is a delight. The EP gets a deservedly rave review on the Delusions of Adequacy website too, the reviewer calling Headlights "perhaps my new favorite band", to be filed under "catchy and lush indie-pop".
I knew there were probably going to be many positive side-effects of starting my blog - I'm thrilled that one of the first is that I'm catching up with what my favourite cousins are doing.
Hi All - I've noticed that team America has made little input thus far and I am here to correct this terrible oversite. Things on this side of the pond are going very well. Headlights is rocking away, as is expected, they are down to 3 members and have never sounded better. They were the core of the group anyway and they are having a great time. The youngest cousin is back in school and contemplating a degree in something related to music production - although this is not set in stone as he still has several years to go. I competed my first semester of medical school without being thrown out so that's very good. I'm now more than half way through my second semester and they're keeping me on so I'm very pleased about that. I'm officiall three sixteenths a doctor now! This summer I am helping to organize a trip to Ecuador where we will be bringing many desperately needed medical supplies and volunteering in several hospitals in Quito (donations are being accepted...) and I'm really looking forward to that. I'm currently learning Spanish in preparation, although I haven't really gotten very far. My parents (The Mad Prof and I don't know what my Mum's blog name is) are both doing very well. The MP is currently finishing up a book chapter and my Mum is getting ready for a mini concert with a friend of hers. So, it's all go over here. Hello to everyone - we miss you all!!

Darling uk family - I am sheeply adamed for not having been here to this very box before. I LOVE the blog - it, too, smacks of 'lush indie pop' - a piece of PO brilliance! To update CtE's report - she is having a blast in Ecuador - been to the mouth of an active volcano, thrilled to an earthquake, gone dancing, seen astonishing sights in hospitals and is about to go off to the galapagos islands - one of her childhood dreams...... HG is back from tour - they had a wonderful time, made money, didn't get arrested.............YC is working for his mum this summer slaving away at decorating the house in wild and wonderful colours...........we have an addition to the family! A snow white siberian husky puppy called Nanuk - sweet sweet sweet - and in that order. MP has had a rather harrowing semester - but is still - as one of his students proudly exclaimed "the shit" (high praise according to the younger generation!) FA is finishing up her book on piano and has plans.......more immediate plans are that FA and MP will be home for the fabulous Lovebirds event - can't wait to see you one and all - special hugs and congrats to BW on his remarkable success and even more remarkable father!
