The Boy Wonder called this afternoon - he got back last night from a week in Cornwall with his Mum, sister and little brother Schmoo. It seems they had a fabulous week staying in a cottage (No. 1, Watergate), visiting the Eden Project (where apparently the BW's recent Asian experiences enabled him to identify some of the more exotic flora), Looe, Truro and St Ives, as well as going on walks on the beach and in the countryside.
Astonishingly, especially for the PO, as he pays the BW's school fees, he now has another week off, presumably to recover from the stress and exertions of the first. Still, at least it will give him time to catch up on his piano practice.
On a less happy note, The Principal informed me this evening that the deal on the house the Lovebirds were buying has fallen through, after the owner decided not to sell after all, but to rent. This is particularly galling, as they were hoping to move next week, during Auntie J's half term. As it is, they'll spend the week looking for something to rent instead. It does seem terribly unfair, after the Lovebirds had spent a not inconsiderable amount of money on surveys and solicitor's fees, that the deal can fall through on little more than a capricious whim of the owner, while the Lovebirds have no recourse whatsoever.
As for the Paternal Optimist's plans to buy a chalet somewhere in the Swiss or French Alps, they are no more advanced than when the idea was first mooted two years ago. So here's a public resolution : the PO hereby dutifully promises to get off his backside and start looking.
