This album covers the three years or so before the launch of this blog - in other words anything prior to the Dynamic Duo's visit to Singapore and Thailand in August 2004. More recent pictures will probably be of superior quality (technical rather than artistic, that is) - the Paternal Optimist only purchased his first digital camera in February 2003.

Verbier, Switzerland  August 01, 2002

The Boy Wonder and Miel - love at first sight, I think it is fair to say. From the moment we arrived at the chalet of our friend JPK to the moment we left, the two were inseparable.

The Boy Wonder never tired of throwing sticks... and Miel never tired of fetching them.

Life imitates art

Life imitates art

Isola Bella, Stresa, Italy  August 10, 2002

The glorious gardens on the Isola Bella, just off the coast of Stresa in the Lago Maggiore, are adorned with hundreds of statues, most of which the Boy Wonder managed to imitate during our visit...

Mount Etna (part one)

Mount Etna (part one)

Mount Etna, Sicily  August 16, 2003

In the Summer of 2003, the BW and I ventured on our first holiday together as just the two of us, without the rest of the Usual Suspects. We chose to go to the Club Med in Sicily, where we alternated between lazy days by the pool and trips to local sites of interest. The trip to Mount Etna involved a two and a half hour coach trip followed by another two bone-shaking hours in giant 4x4s crawling their way through the extraordinary surreal landscape. It was worth every minute of discomfort.

There is nothing the Boy Wonder likes more than a good scrabble around looking for objects of obscure interest. Here he is, examining the sulphur-streaked debris on Mount Etna.

Many an hour was spent in and around this astonishing swimming pool.
